CALIMESA, CA — A 54-year-old Yucaipa man died in a crash this week on Interstate 10 in the Calimesa area, the California Highway Patrol reports. The deadly wreck happened just after 6 p.m. Tuesday along the westbound side of the freeway, just west of County Line Road.

According to CHP Officer Ivan Sandoval, the victim was a passenger in a white Ford boxtruck, while another Yucaipa man was at the wheel.

"For reasons still under investigation, the driver allowed his vehicle to travel off the roadway and collided into a chain-link fence bordering the north edge of Interstate 10," Sandoval said in a news release. "The Ford continued northwest and collided into a building."
