Multiple Search Warrants Served At Missing Baby's IE Home

The investigation appears to be homing in on the child's parents, who have provided inconsistent statements to detectives, authorities say.

CABAZON, CA — In the days after 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro's mother reported him kidnapped from an Inland Empire shopping center, authorities took custody of a child from the family's Cabazon home and searched it with K-9s, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department confirmed Monday.

At the same time, the search for the missing infant continues across Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Emmanuel was reported missing on Thursday, when his mother, Rebecca Haro, said she was attacked at a shopping center in Yucaipa and the child was abducted.

Investigators appear skeptical. On Monday, they said her story had inconsistencies and that she and her husband, Jake Mitchell Haro, were uncooperative when pressed for more information.

"[The baby] has not been located, and our investigators remain committed to finding him," the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department announced in a written statement. "Investigators have served several search warrants at the Haro home and utilized K9s to aid in the investigation. Additionally, a large amount of surveillance video has been obtained from areas of interest and are being reviewed."

As police scrutinize the Haro family's story, details about Jake Haro's criminal history of child cruelty have surfaced.

Court records obtained from the Riverside County Superior Court show that he was convicted in 2023 of felony child cruelty in Hemet in connection with a 2018 incident. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 48 months of probation.

Additionally, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Mara Rodriguez confirmed to Patch that a child from Emmanuel's home was removed Sunday by Riverside County Child and Family Services officers.

As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, no arrests have been made in the case.

On Thursday, just after 7:45 p.m., Rebecca Haro reported that Emmanuel had been kidnapped from the parking lot of the Big 5 Sporting Goods Store on Yucaipa Boulevard.

She told investigators that she left her husband and two other children at a local football practice in Yucaipa and went to the sporting goods store with the baby, according to multiple reports. She claimed that she was changing the baby's diaper when she was attacked. When she awoke, the baby was gone, she said.

On Friday afternoon, Jake and Rebecca Haro pleaded with the public outside the Big 5 Sporting Goods store on Yucaipa Boulevard.

Investigators say they are unable to rule out foul play in Emmanuel's disappearance.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's department called for the public's help in finding the missing baby.

"During the last few days, investigators have conducted extensive searches in Yucaipa and Cabazon, looking for Emmanuel and any evidence that might lead to his location and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance," the agency said.

The department has asked that anyone with information call 911 or sheriff's dispatch at 909-387-8313.
