Nuevo Fire Contained After Burning Multiple Structures

The Water Fire broke out Wednesday morning, quickly spreading to structures and vegetation before being contained.

NUEVO, CA — A fire has been extinguished Wednesday afternoon after breaking out after 7 a.m. in the Nuevo area, quickly spreading through vegetation and "multiple structures," the Riverside County Fire Department reported.

The blaze was first reported at 7:19 a.m. in the 26000 block of Water Avenue. It had been fully contained at 5 acres by 12:37 p.m., with all evacuations lifted.

Evacuations had been ordered on Water Avenue east of El Nido, Emerett Lane east of El Nido and Orange Avenue east of El Nido.

It wasn't immediately clear how many homes or people were affected by the orders. The sheriff's department assisted with the evacuation efforts.

The fire comes as strong Santa Ana winds and low humidity are significantly raising the threat of wildfires in Riverside County, according to the National Weather Service.

"Firefighters are battling approximately 40 mph winds," the fire department said Wednesday morning of the so-called Water Fire.

The fire department said 119 firefighters from 23 engine companies were called to the scene, along with a water tender and two bulldozers.
