According to the Riverside Police Department, Garcia was in a sexual relationship with Kaylie's younger sister, whose identity was not disclosed.

On the night of Feb. 2, after spending time with the girl, he drove her back to her family's residence in the 1500 block of Gregg Place, near Chicago Avenue, where Kaylie and her family members confronted him as he sat in his vehicle, police spokesman Officer Ryan Railsback said.

"Garcia then sped away, striking the victim with his car," he said.

He said paramedics reached the location moments later and discovered the teen with "severe injuries." She was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where her infant daughter was delivered before she died.

The baby, Elena, survived.

Garcia was immediately identified as the alleged assailant and was taken into custody by Riverside police officers less than two hours later. He has no documented prior felony convictions.

"Our girl was more than just a teenager -- she was a radiant light in our lives," according to a GoFundMe account established by the Corona family. "She was a caring, loving and joyful soul whose presence touched everyone she met."

The account creator, Rosarie Corona, said in February the family was "facing the urgent medical needs of the baby, who is fighting for her life."
