Pedestrian Killed Near Riverside By Vehicle On I-215 ID'd

The Riverside County coroner's office Sunday named the 42-year-old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Saturday.

RIVERSIDE, CA — The Riverside County coroner's office Sunday named the 42-year-old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing Interstate 215 just outside of Riverside.

It happened at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday on the southbound side of the freeway near Center Street, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to a CHP log, the man, who appeared to be homeless, was seen walking barefoot along the right shoulder and it looked as if he was trying to run into traffic.

Minutes later he was hit by a vehicle near the center divider, according to the CHP.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified as Juan Gonzalez of Santa Ana, according to the coroner's office.
