Police Chase On SR-60 Ends Near Beaumont

The incident prompted a major backup through the Badlands on Thursday afternoon while authorities searched for a weapon.

BEAUMONT, CA — Two people were arrested on Thursday afternoon after fleeing from police and taking them on a short pursuit through the Badlands following an attempted traffic stop, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department tells Patch.

According to sheriff's Dep. Mike Vasquez, it started around 3:30 p.m. when deputies attempted to pull a vehicle over in the area of the 60 Freeway and Nason Street in Moreno Valley.

"The vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit occurred," he told Patch.

As the vehicle fled eastbound on the highway, deputies saw someone throw something out of a the window. Believing it was a possible weapon, authorities searched the area, and did indeed eventually recover one, Vasquez said. It wasn't immediately clear what type of weapon was involved.

An adult man and women were ultimately taken into custody when the chase ended in the Badlands area, according to Vasquez.
