Pyrite Fire 100% Contained, Cause Remains Under Investigation: Cal Fire

JURUPA VALLEY, CA — The Pyrite Fire, which has burned 551 acres in mountainous terrain in Jurupa Valley, was 100% contained Tuesday.

As of 6 a.m. Tuesday, the Pyrite Fire was fully contained, and all firefighting resources were released from the incident, according to Cal Fire reports.

The blaze, which began Friday, was considered "well in hand" by Sunday, as Firefighters worked in favorable conditions. Resources remained on the line overnight through Monday, building containment lines, according to the department.

Firefighters responded at approximately 5:20 p.m. Friday near Pyrite Street and Granite Hill Drive to reports of a brush fire that initially consumed about 15 acres of vegetation before burning through over 550 acres, authorities said.

There were nearly 300 firefighters on the scene, including eight hand crews. They were aided by water drops from two helicopters.

Residents were asked to use caution in the area while firefighters continued their work. No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
