RivCo Deputy In Fatal Crash, Tesla Driver Killed: Reports
The Tesla driver's passenger was seriously hurt and the deputy suffered minor injuries, reports said.
CALIMESA, CA — One person is dead and two are injured after a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy collided with a Tesla in Calimesa, according to reports.
The deputy, 41, was responding to a call with lights and sirens activated around 10 a.m. Saturday and was traveling west on Cherry Valley Boulevard when a Tesla Model 3 turned left from Roberts Street into the patrol vehicle’s path, KABC reported.
Gavin Hinkey, 21, of Cherry Valley, was killed and his passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, NBC4 News reported, adding the deputy was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries.

California Highway Patrol investigators do not think drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, according to KABC.
