RivCo Girl, 4, Gets Disney Wish Granted Amid Cancer Fight, Parents Share Her Joy
Abbigail, 4, loves Disney princesses, fireworks, and is battling cancer. Her family shared her reaction to her Once Upon A Wish invitation.
HEMET, CA — It isn't every day that you get to see your child's dream come true. For the family of a 4-year-old Hemet girl who is battling cancer, watching her learn she's going to Walt Disney World to a red-carpet meeting with the princesses at the Royal Ball is a wish come true.
Recently, they showed Abbigail her pop-up book-style invitation to attend the Once Upon A Wish Party at Walt Disney World. She is one of 50 kids selected for this magical journey, according to a Magic Kingdom resort spokesperson.
"What did you get? Open it! Open it!" her family encouraged, all gathered around, as seen in the video above.

Abbigail's family peered over her shoulder as she read through a pop-up book-style invitation. First, her mom pointed out the princesses. "Who's that?" she asked.
"Moana," Abby said, in a reverent-sounding voice.

Next, she pointed out the Cinderella Castle. "What's that?" Her mother asked.
"It's a castle! And fireworks! I love fireworks!" Abbigail clapped with excitement.
Finally, her mother showed her the best news of all, reading: "Magic mirror on the wall, who's going to see the royal ball?" Her mother read, pointing to a mirror on the book's surface. "Who's gonna see it?"
When she saw her reflection, she smiled. "Abby," she said, understanding that her wish had come true.
This year, Abbigail and her family will visit the Make-A-Wish event at Disney World, culminating in a royal ball, a Walt Disney World spokesperson told Patch.
Tajiana Ancora-Brown, Director of External Affairs at Walt Disney World, shared what was planned for the “Once Upon A Wish Party," saying that it "is Disney magic at its best."
"This latest Make-A-Wish event at Disney World will grant Abbigail’s wish to go to Disney World and meet princesses. Disney wishes like this bring happiness to kids with critical illnesses when it’s needed most. They have the power to build hope, deliver joy and create lasting memories for the whole family.
“Hundreds of cast members across the company are working together to create happiness for Make-A-Wish families," she said. "Disney and Make-A-Wish have worked together for nearly 45 years, granting more than 165,000 Disney wishes together, including the first official wish that was granted at Disneyland."
This year's event, exclusive to Make-A-Wish families, takes place during Disney’s Week of Wishes in April.
"Around 50 different princess wishes will be granted as part of a two-day adventure where wish kids will step into their storybook and become just like the Disney characters who inspired them during their medical journeys," she said.
Abbigail will enjoy a red-carpet arrival, royal wardrobe fittings and a pajama party complete with characters and fireworks. And, that’s just the beginning, according to her itenerary.
"After sleeping off the fun of day one, 'wish kids' will awake to breakfast with sidekicks at sunrise. The afternoon will be filled with character greetings galore before a makeover session ahead of the main event: the royal ball where wish kids will officially be crowned Disney royalty," she said. "Disney wishes like this bring happiness to kids with critical illnesses when it’s needed most. They have the power to build hope, deliver joy and create lasting memories for the whole family."
Being a Disney WishMaker is a huge part of the company.
"Employees, cast members, and teams – working with Make-A-Wish to help grant life-changing wishes for children fighting critical illnesses around the world," she said. "Any Cast Member can join the WishMaker project by visiting wish.org/Disney.
