RivCo Man Arrested In Connection With Fatal Grocery Store Parking Lot Shooting
Police say that Rivera and Gonzalez knew each other, but the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.

BANNING, CA — A 27-year-old Moreno Valley man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that took place last week in a Riverside grocery store parking lot, authorities said.
Officers were called on Oct. 13 around 4:22 p.m. to the 9200 block of Magnolia Avenue after multiple 911 callers reported gunfire, according to the Riverside Police Department. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from several gunshot wounds. Despite officers’ efforts to save him, the victim, identified as Luis Gonzalez, 27, of Perris, died at the scene.
Police said the suspected shooter, Edgar Rivera, 27, remained at the scene and surrendered to responding officers. Police say that Rivera and Gonzalez knew each other, but the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.

Detectives with the department’s Robbery-Homicide Unit, assisted by the Forensics Unit and the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office, took over the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate Gonzalez and Rivera knew each other, though investigators have not disclosed what led to the shooting.
Rivera was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murder and is being held on $2 million bail, police said.
