RivCo Senator Accused Of DUI Near State Capitol: Report

Following a crash with another vehicle, the state senator denies that she was driving under the influence.

RIVERSIDE, CA — A California state senator has been accused of driving under the influence, following a crash that occurred just blocks away from the state capitol on Monday, according to multiple reports.

Sen. Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside), was taken to a hospital after a collision with another car, according to the Sacramento Police Department, KTLA reported.

Police determined that Cervantes was under the influence of alcohol while she was at the hospital. She was cited with a misdemeanor before she was released.

However, Cervantes denied the charges and accused police of "accosting" her, KTLA reported.

The lawmaker says she was seeking care in the emergency room after her sedan was T-boned by a large SUV. Following the crash, she says she was involuntarily detained at the hospital for several hours, according to a statement provided to KTLA.

"The lab results I sought in the hospital show conclusively I had no alcohol in my system. I expect this to be quickly and justly resolved,” she said.
