The three Riverside County-operated shelters that will be participating include the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms, the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus in San Jacinto and the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley.

Southern California NBC-affiliate, KNBC (also known as NBC4) is co-sponsoring the event with Telemundo 52 (KVEA). To participate, shelter organizations were asked to lower adoption fees to $20. As a special nod to the NBC4 and Telemundo 52, Riverside County is offering dog and cat adoptions for just $4.52 during the Clear the Shelters. Last year, 131 animals were adopted by Riverside County’s shelters during Clear the Shelters. Riverside County officials are hoping to top that number.

“NBC and Telemundo do such a great job promoting Clear the Shelters, we anticipate another big rush to adopt at our three locations,” Riverside County Animal Services Director Robert Miller said. “Even though this is the summertime and people are taking vacations or lounging by the pool, we are optimistic that there are many families that will take advantage of our special rate on this special day.”

BC4 and Telemundo are promoting the event to run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, the hours at the three Riverside County shelters are as follows: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Coachella Valley Animal Campus; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter.
