Riverside County Soccer Coach To Stand Trial For Sexual Assault

RIVERSIDE, CA — A youth soccer coach accused of sexually assaulting a female player and another girl in Riverside must stand trial on multiple counts of lewd acts on a minor, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Jordan Russell Cohen, 28, of Riverside, was arrested in 2020 following a Riverside Police Department investigation.

At the end of a preliminary hearing Wednesday, Riverside County Superior Court Judge Randall Stamen found there was sufficient evidence to warrant a trial on five counts of lewd acts on a child and four counts of sexual penetration of a minor with a foreign object, as well as a sentence- enhancing allegation of targeting more than one victim.

The judge scheduled a post-preliminary hearing arraignment for Nov. 14 at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

Cohen is free on a $20,000 bond.

According to Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback, in January 2020, detectives were informed that the defendant, who previously taught soccer to children in the Orangecrest community, allegedly sexually abused a player, identified in court documents only as "Jane Doe," on several occasions when she was under 16 years old.

The circumstances behind the alleged encounters were not disclosed.

Railsback said that following a two-day investigation, members of the police department's Sexual Assault-Child Abuse Unit took the coach into custody without incident at his residence on Magnolia Avenue.

Another alleged victim came forward after Cohen's arrest, but no details were provided regarding the circumstances, including whether she was also a soccer player.

The defendant has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
