Robbery Suspect Captured By Moreno Valley Deputies

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A suspect who robbed a man at gunpoint as he left a Moreno Valley store Monday morning has been captured.

The alleged holdup occurred shortly before 8 a.m. outside a convenience store at the intersection of Filaree Avenue and Perris Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Sgt. Leon Radford said that the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was walking away from the store when the suspect brandished a handgun at the man and demanded his valuables.

The victim complied, after which the robber jumped into a silver Chevrolet Malibu occupied by a woman and fled southbound in the direction of Gentian Avenue, Radford said.

The victim was not injured.

Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the Malibu immediately, but Monday afternoon the sheriff's department confirmed that a suspect was in custody.

Richard Harris, 31, of Riverside was arrested around 10:30 a.m. after the Malibu was spotted in the area of Heacock Street and Fir Avenue in Moreno Valley. Harris was behind the wheel, and a subsequent vehicle search turned up an unregistered firearm, ammunition and evidence linked to the robbery, according to the sheriff's department.

Harris was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of robbery, multiple firearms violations and three felony warrants, the sheriff's department reported.
