RUHS Medical Center Continues Rollout of Epic Health Record

"Our patients will have the convenience of viewing their laboratory results and requesting prescription refills online."

The rollout of Riverside University Health System’s electronic health record continued Monday with the second and largest phase of the rollout going “live” at the RUHS Medical Center in Moreno Valley and its psychiatric hospital in Riverside.

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved $53 million for the Epic medical record last year as part of a plan to improve healthcare for the county’s 2.3 million residents. Annually, RUHS provides more than a half million outpatient visits and hospital admissions, and trains thousands of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals.

RUHS launched the first phase of its electronic medical record on Aug. 2 in its 10 community-based health clinics throughout Riverside County. The state-of-the-art technology links Riverside University Health System to Loma Linda University Health, and serves as the communications backbone for a clinically integrated network of clinical and behavioral health providers in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

“Our patients will have the convenience of viewing their laboratory results and requesting prescription refills online,” said Dr. Aleca Clark, whose teams worked for more than a year to train thousands of RUHS healthcare workers on the electronic record.

“Providers can simultaneously review a patient’s health records in real time,” Clark said. “We are bringing the very best in healthcare technology to our patients and communities and by doing so we are improving the quality of our patient care.”
