'Scary Place To Work': RivCo Man Arrested Amid Manager's Death

A 58-year-old former VA Loma Linda employee was arrested in Philadelphia this week on suspicion of murdering his manager last month.

LOMA LINDA, CA — A former worker of VA Loma Linda Healthcare System was arrested in Philadelphia on Wednesday and is accused of killing his manager at his Rancho Cucamonga home last month, according to authorities and news reports.

Mira Loma resident Paul Warren, 58, was apprehended on Monday by police in Philadelphia on suspicion of murdering Joshua Watson on Nov. 25, according to the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department.

The killing is believed to be work-related, the Sheriff's Department said, as reported by The Press-Enterprise.

Employees of the VA also previously told Redlands Daily Facts that they believed that Watson may have been involved in a work-related dispute with a former worker. Authorities have not commented on the nature of the dispute.

“It’s a scary place to work,” one employee told the newspaper on the condition of anonymity.

Warren remains in custody in a Philadelphia jail as he awaits extradition to California, the Sheriff's Department said in a release.

On Monday, Nov. 25, just before 8 p.m., deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Station responded to reports of a man suffering injuries in the 13100 block of Joliet Drive, where they found Watson injured and non-responsive. Watson was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead, despite life-saving measures, the department said.

Homicide investigators said when 43-year-old Watson arrived home, he was confronted by a suspect, later identified as Warren. Then, violence broke out.

"During the encounter, Watson received lethal injuries," police said on Wednesday, adding that the suspect fled before deputies arrived.

Watson was a former Marine captain, according to multiple reports.

A warrant was issued for Warren shortly after the slaying and he was found in Philadelphia on Dec. 9 by police. According to public records, Warren may have family in Philadelphia.
