Snow Expected in Mountains, Rains in the Pass, Wind and Flood Advisories Issued

An approaching storm system could bring snow levels in the mountains down to 3,500 feet by Thursday morning, while wind and rains are expected at lower elevations.

The Southern California Weather Authority has issued a flood advisory for some elevations in the San Gorgonio Pass.

Gusty southwest to west winds of 20 miles per hour to 30 mph are expected in the mountains and deserts and an advisory was issued for 10 p.m. Dec. 18 to 7 p.m. Dec. 19, according to the National Weather Service.

The strongest winds are expected over mountain ridges, where isolated gusts could reach 60 mph, and on desert slopes, the Weather Service advised. Blowing sand and dust could reduce visibility in some desert areas.

Lows in the 40s are expected Wednesday night and Thursday night for Beaumont and Banning, with daytime highs around 50 on Thursday, according to the Weather Service.

Snow levels in the mountains may drop to 3,500 to 4,000 feet by Thursday morning, according to Weather Service forecasts. Snow accumulations of 1 inch to 3 inches are possible below 6,000 feet, and up to 5 inches could fall at higher elevations on both sides of the Pass.
