Speed May Have Caused Major Beaumont Crash, Police Say

One person was temporarily trapped in the wreckage of the weekend crash, officials reported.

BEAUMONT, CA — Two people were hospitalized over the weekend in a major crash that temporarily blocked a busy Beaumont intersection, police report.

The collision involved a total of four vehicles and happened around 6:45 a.m. Sunday at Beaumont Avenue and First Street, just outside Lamb's Canyon, according to police and fire officials.

Fire officials say they had to cut one person free from the wreckage, and that man was rushed to the hospital with injuries described as "moderate." Another person hurt in the crash also had moderate injuries.

A third person involved in the incident refused medical care, the fire department said.

"A preliminary cause of the collision appears to be excessive speed, but this case is still under investigation," Beaumont police said in a news release.
