Strong Wind Gusts Expected Through Riverside County

A high wind warning is in place for certain mountain and pass areas.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Gusty winds are expected in Riverside County Tuesday and the strongest gusts will be in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency issued a high wind warning that will last until 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Riverside County mountains and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning - - but not the Coachella Valley.

A wind advisory will be in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Riverside metropolitan area.

Winds sweeping in from the west over the mountains are expected to reach speeds between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts possibly reaching 70 mph along mountain ridge tops, forecasters said.

Wind speeds are expected to be around the same in the Riverside metropolitan area, but gusts should only reach 55 mph, according to the NWS.

NWS officials warned that winds could be strong enough to blow around unsecured objects and knock down tree limbs, potentially causing power outages.

Conditions will also be hazardous for high-profile vehicles traveling through the mountains and the San Gorgonio Pass.

The winds are expected to calm by Tuesday evening, then remain mild the rest of the week.

High temperatures Tuesday could reach 65 degrees in Riverside, 61 in the San Gorgonio Pass, 64 in the Coachella Valley, 60 in Temecula and 63 in Hemet.
