Suspect Released In Fatal Moreno Valley Shooting

MORENO VALLEY, CA — The Riverside County District Attorney's Office is reviewing Monday the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man in Moreno Valley.

Riverside County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 13600 block of Daimler Street around 2:50 p.m. Saturday to an assault with a deadly weapon call. They located the victim, identified as Xavier Cox, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Deputies and paramedics rendered medical aid to Cox before he was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, authorities said.

Sheriff's homicide detectives assumed the investigation and took a suspect to the sheriff's station to speak with investigators. According to the sheriff's department, the suspect was cooperative with the investigation and was later released. No identifying details of the suspect were provided.

The investigation was ongoing and transferred to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office for review.
