Millions of working Americans outside of retail and hospitality get the day off for Labor Day, a federal holiday since 1894 established to honor workers’ contributions during the Industrial Revolution.

Most major retailers — including The Home Depot, Walmart and Albertsons — will keep regular hours on Monday. Costco, however, will be closed, as it is on many other national holidays.
