Woman Killed In DHS I-10 Motorcycle Crash ID'd As Arizona Resident

The woman was sent to a nearby hospital but did not survive.

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA — A passenger on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that crashed last week on Interstate 10 in Desert Hot Springs was identified over the weekend as a Phoenix, Arizona, woman.

Cheryl McCoy, 68, was pronounced dead at Desert Regional Medical Center less than 2 hours after Thursday's 11:20 a.m. crash on westbound Interstate 10 near the Palm Drive exit.

According to the California Highway Patrol, she was on the back of the motorcycle, and the bike was towing a small trailer. For reasons that are unclear, the Harley's pilot — a 63-year-old man — made an unsafe turn to the left while traveling westbound at approximately 70 mph. The man lost control and the bike overturned in the freeway's center divider, the CHP reported.
