Born May 26, 1959, in Gladewater, Texas, Bernard worked as an actress throughout the 1980s and 1990s on television shows including "The Facts of Life" and "Simon and Simon." She is best remembered, however, for her role as Terry Brock on the soap opera "General Hospital." She landed the part in 1984 and was on the show until 1990.

According to Variety, Bernard's first credited role was in Jean-Jacques Beneix’s 1981 French hit "Diva." While still working on "General Hospital," Bernard reunited with Beneix for a small role in his 1986 French romance "Betty Blue." The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film and a BAFTA nod.

Following her six-year run on "General Hospital," Bernard appeared in the French miniseries "Maigret" in 1992 and in a Gallic film — "Kings for a Day" — in 1997. According to Variety, her final role was as a psychologist in the 2002 film "Voices from High School."

Bernard is survived by her sisters Crystal, also an actress, and Scarlett, as well as her father, Jerry Wayne Bernard.

Bernard's body was discovered the same day that another former actress was found dead in Riverside County.

Maria Eugenia Richwine, 71, of Los Angeles was discovered unresponsive in a residential hot tub in the 400 block of E. Valmonte Sur shortly before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Palm Springs police Lt. Gustavo Araiza.

Born in Colombia, Richwine became a Playboy Bunny and was later cast as Buddy Holly's wife in a 1978 biopic about the famous American 1950s rock-and-roller. The Columbia Pictures film "The Buddy Holly Story" co-starred Gary Busey as the iconic singer and songwriter.
