DUI Patrols Planned for Friday in Long Beach

Long Beach police will be on the lookout for drunk drivers tonight.

The Long Beach Police Department's DUI Enforcement Team will conduct DUI saturation patrols Friday night in Long Beach, the department announced Thursday.

According to police, the patrols will deploy from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. Friday and will stop and arrest any drivers that appear to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

While police did not disclose the exact location of the patrols, they did say officers will focus on areas with high frequencies of DUI related collisions and arrests.

Over the past three years, police said DUI collisions have caused 14 deaths and resulted in 305 injury crashes in California.

“The Long Beach Police Department will be keeping the pressure on through enforcement and public awareness so that we can continue saving lives and reach the vision we all share – toward zero deaths, every 1 counts," said the Office of Traffic Safety director Christopher Murphy. "California's roadways are much safer than they were before 2006."
