Man Crossing Street Dies After Being Hit By SUV In Long Beach, Police Say
An investigation is ongoing, police say.
LONG BEACH, CA — A man crossing a Long Beach street died after he was hit by an SUV late Tuesday, police say.
Officers responded to a traffic collision with injuries involving a pedestrian and an SUV at West Willow Street and Maine Avenue shortly after 10:30 p.m., the Long Beach Police Department said.
Long Beach Fire Department rescuers tried to save the man, then took him to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to police.

Initial investigation shows a 2023 Toyota RAV4 was traveling on West Willow Street when it hit a man crossing the street at an intersection, police said, adding that it’s not yet clear if he was in an unmarked crosswalk.
The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, which police said is ongoing.

Police said they do not believe speed, distracted driving or impaired driving are factors in the crash.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner will identify the man, police said.
