Long Beach Man Identified as Victim in Signal Hill Accident

The elderly man was riding an electric mobility scooter when he was hit.

Authorities Thursday identified a 91-year-old man who was struck by a pickup truck and killed while riding his electric mobility scooter in Signal Hill.

The accident occurred at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Willow Street and Temple Avenue, Signal Hill police Sgt. Brian Leyn said.

Raymond Lopez of Long Beach died at a hospital about six hours later, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.

Lopez was crossing Temple Avenue at eastbound Willow Street on his four- wheeled scooter when the Ford F-250 pickup truck made a right turn, striking him, Leyn said. The motorist was not cited or arrested, Cravens said.
