Belmont Shore Suspicious Device Was A Dud

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bomb squad was notified and determined the item did not contain any explosives, police said.

BELMONT SHORE, CA — Residents in Belmont Shore around Bayshore Avenue and East Ocean Boulevard were briefly evacuated as a precaution Tuesday morning after a suspicious package, which was later determined not to have any explosives, was found, police said.

Around 8:15 a.m., officers were dispatched the 5400 block of East Ocean Boulevard on a report of a suspicious package found there, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Marlene Arrona said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bomb squad was notified and determined the item did not contain any explosives, she said.

East Ocean Boulevard was closed for a time and nearby areas were evacuated as a precaution, Arrona said. Through traffic in the area has been restored but an investigation was ongoing, she said.

On Monday evening, a suspicious device, which turned out to be a grenade, was reported on the West Side in the 2200 block of San Gabriel Avenue, near West Willard Street.

The device was reported about 7 p.m. and the sheriff's bomb squad responded, determined the device was a grenade and removed it, Arrona said.

It was unclear if the grenade was live, according to Arrona, who said the scene was cleared by about 8:45 p.m.
