Scouts and Makers Celebrate International Communications

Makers commune with scouts celebrating the Jamboree on the Internet and the Jamboree on the Air.

The Jamboree on the Air and the Jamboree on the Internet are two concurrent International Scouting events being held this weekend at locations around the world.

At the Long Beach Area Council's Long Beach Sea Base, it was a celebration of communications and Maker culture with displays by Makers (young and not as young). Scouts and makers learned morse code, did electronics projects, robotics projects and geocaching. For many, it was their first time learning about the global scavenger hunt that is geocaching.

Upstairs, high school students from Cabrillo, Sato, Wilson, Poly and Mater Dei high schools helped to run activities. The 3d printer, computer room, Oculus, electronics projects, Ozobots and EV3s got a work out. Youth projects like YouTube channels, games, the Retro Pi, the Braigo and ciphers were presented.

We were pleased to be visited by scouts from as far away as England and Riverside!

Special thanks to the groups who brought key activities and multiple volunteers, especially: the Cabrillo Key Club, Sato High School, Troop 14 and TeleToyland.com.
