Armed Robbery Suspect Live Streams Chase With Baby In Car: Deputies

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — An armed robbery suspect was arrested Thursday after leading police on a high-speed chase across Los Angeles County with a baby in the car and live-streaming the ordeal on his Instagram account, according to police.

The incident began with three suspects who were wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Beverly Hills. Two were quickly taken into custody. The third suspect had his girlfriend pick him up, according to KTLA.

The car the suspect, woman and baby were in was spotted in Hawthorne. They led Hawthorne police on a high-speed chase, which was eventually taken over by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies, KTLA reported.

The suspect's vehicle headed to downtown Los Angeles, traveling at 80 mph on surface streets, narrowly missed hitting a Metro bus, ran red lights and stop signs, weaved through heavy traffic and drove on the wrong side of the road, according to KTLA, which captured the chase from a helicopter.

South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station Lt. David Berry confirmed the suspect was live-streaming the chase while the infant's mother begged him from the backseat of the car to pull over and surrender.

On the live stream, which is no longer available on Instagram, the woman could be heard screaming for her and her baby to be let out of the car, KTLA reported:

“Just let us out the car,” she’s heard saying.

“This is sheriffs, they going to kill me,” he responds.

“You’re not thinking about your baby right now,” she says. “You’re fixing to get your baby killed.”

“Bro, I don’t want to go back to jail,” he says.

“It’s over, bro, it’s over,” she screams back. “It’s reality.”

The man had previously been convicted of a felony, deputies said.

The chase ended on a cul-de-sac in Culver City's Blair Hills neighborhood, where the suspect briefly remained in the car when deputies blocked it. As deputies approached the car, they saw the suspect was holding a baby swaddled in pink in his lap.

The man surrendered and the mother emerged from the backseat carrying the baby. The suspect hugged the woman, who stiffed and then handed the baby to nearby deputies. Deputies then held and tried to comfort the baby while the suspect was handcuffed.

"I tried to soothe her and comfort her," sheriff's Deputy Adriana Martinez, who was seen holding the baby, told reporters.

The man was arrested on suspicion of robbery. The woman was released from custody. The baby was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
