Beverly Hills Police Department Selects Sacramento Cop As Assistant Chief

Capt. Marc Coopwood, a 22-year law enforcement veteran, will be sworn in on April 24 at a public ceremony at the Wallis.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA -- A Sacramento police captain has been hired as the new Beverly Hills Police Department Assistant Chief of Police, the city announced this week.

Capt. Marc Coopwood, a 22-year law enforcement veteran, will be sworn in on April 24 at a public ceremony at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.

As the second-in-command to Police Chief Sandra Spagnoli, Capt. Coopwood will assist the chief in overseeing day-to-day operations and be a key member of the department's senior policy team.

“I am honored to become a member of the Beverly Hills Police Department,” Coopwood said. “This is a top-notch organization that proudly serves a world class community. I look forward to working closely with Chief Spagnoli and members of the Beverly Hills Police Department, to continue in moving the department forward.”

Coopwood began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 1994 and was promoted to sergeant in 2004, lieutenant in 2011 and captain in 2015. He has managed a variety of assignments including patrol, narcotics, special operations, internal affairs and investigations.

He is the current President of the California Peace Officers’ Association. Coopwood holds a Master’s Degree in Emergency Services Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He has attended the FBI National Academy, POST Command College and the PERF Senior Management Institute for Police.

“Marc has had a solid track record in enhancing police services, mentoring and statewide leadership,” said Chief Spagnoli. “He exemplifies the department core values of respect, integrity, courage, commitment and honor.”
