Beverly Hills Police Investigate Stabbing Death

A man who was said to be behaving aggressively was stabbed in broad daylight after confronting a man who was with his young daughter.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — A man who was said to be behaving aggressively was stabbed in broad daylight in Beverly Hills after confronting a man who was with his young daughter at the time.

The stabbing occurred about 2:50 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Spalding Drive, just east of the intersection of Santa Monica and Wilshire boulevards, according to a statement from the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Police said the suspect approached the other man, who was walking with his daughter on a sidewalk. Following a physical altercation, the father stabbed the suspect and both individuals sustained injuries.

The type of weapon used in the stabbing was unclear, nor was it clear who had been in possession of it at the time the altercation began.

"The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he later died," said BHPD Chief Mark Stainbrook. "The exact cause of death remains under investigation."

Stainbrook also confirmed the victim was treated for his wounds and released from the hospital.

The victim was cooperating with the investigation, police had said earlier Sunday.

Witnesses told reporters that a man attacked another man who was walking across the street with his wife and a toddler and tried to grab the girl. A third man witnessed the scene while driving and came to the victim's aid. That man told reporters that the suspect then attempted to pull his dog from the vehicle.

"He's in the car. I'm punching him. I can see his face and he's just not present," the man told ABC7. "He was clearly having a psychotic break or something, some kind of drug reaction."

The vehicle came to a stop with its front end in some hedges.

The suspect reportedly then turned his attention to an apartment building and started banging on windows before police arrived and took him into custody.

The investigation was ongoing, police said. Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact BHPD at 310-285-2125.
