BHPD Capt. Mitch McCann Named New Simi Valley Police Chief

McCann has been a member of the Beverly Hills police force for nearly 25 years.

After a career with the spanning nearly 25 years, Capt. Mitch McCann has accepted a position as the chief of police in Simi Valley.

McCann, 49, resides in Simi Valley with his wife, and his children attended schools there, according to the Los Angeles Times.

A BHPD press release states that McCann has spent the last six months competing for the Simi Valley police chief position. He was one of two finalists out of about 50 applicants. McCann starts his new post July 16.

"I want to thank the city of Beverly Hills for providing me with the best friends, training, mentoring, education and experience over these last 24+ years," McCann wrote in a statement. "I love this city, I love this community and I love each of you. I will always carry fond memories of my wonderful experience here."

As a member of the BHPD, McCann worked a variety of assignments, including narcotics, internal affairs and SWAT. Before becoming a captain, he was the executive officer to the chief of police. Among his many duties was serving as the official media spokesperson for the department. In addition to having a master's degree, McCann has also graduated from the State of California Command College and the FBI National Academy.
