DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint Coming Up In Beverly Hills

Drivers will be stopped by officers who will be checking for valid driver's licenses and alcohol and/or drug impairment.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — There will be a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint from 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location within Beverly Hills city limits, the Beverly Hills Police Department announced Wednesday.

All traffic will pass through the checkpoint, and drivers will be stopped by offers who will be checking for alcohol and/or drug impairment. Officers will also check to make sure all drivers have a valid driver’s license.

"The purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety, to increase awareness of the dangers associated with impaired driving, and serve as a deterrent to potential impaired and unlicensed drivers," the BHPD news release said.

The Beverly Hills Police Department supports the Office of Traffic Safety, which aims to educate all drivers that "DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze," BHPD said. Taking prescription drugs, especially those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, might be impairing enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing and can result in a DUI, the BHPD news release said.

Funding for impaired driving enforcement operations are provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
