L.A. County Traffic Deaths Down Over Labor Day Holiday, DUI Arrests Up
One person reportedly died in a highway accident, while 259 motorists were arrested for DUIs.

The California Highway Patrol reported Monday that there was one traffic-related death on Los Angeles County highways during the first 72 hours of the three-day Labor Day weekend, down from three deaths in 2011.
The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and concluded Monday at 6 a.m.
Statewide, there were 11 fatalities in the first 72 hours of the Labor Day weekend, compared with 10 during the same period in 2011.

In L.A. County, CHP officers arrested 259 motorists on suspicion of drunken driving, up from last year's total of 227. Statewide, the CHP reported 960 DUI arrests, down from last year's 1,008.
