New Beverly Hills Cafe Melds Euro Style & Old Hollywood Glam

Velverie Café and Teahouse is open breakfast through dinner, plus for afternoon teas, amid a backdrop of old-school Hollywood glitz.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Velverie Café and Teahouse, a European-style cafe that opened last month in Beverly Hills, aims to be a casual, retro-chic neighborhood eatery featuring all-day dining, afternoon teas and the glitz of Old Hollywood.

“Built on fun, warmth and glamour, my hope is that Velverie will be a welcoming gathering place for all guests to explore their passions within a community of equally-inspired friends," said owner Chloe Strumpf, who said her restaurant's inspiration stemmed from Los Angeles’ diverse design, art, music and pop culture.

Executive Chef Junior Perez took menu inspiration from the European café scene, coupled with contemporary California, local purveyors and farm sources, management said.

The lunch menu offers: a Provençal tuna tartine, with fennel, capers, olives and herb salad on toast; prosciutto and burrata served on a toasted baguette; and Tunisian couscous with grilled vegetables.

Highlighting traditional European-inspired dishes with a California spin, dinner and dessert options include: Jambon-beurre croquettes with French ham & cheese and whipped potato; crab linguini; ribeye with crispy potatoes; a seasonal fruit crostata; an assortment of petit fours; and milk chocolate pot de créme.

During tea time, diners also can opt for "Canapés and Conversation" with eggplant “caviar,” roasted piquillo and crab salad dips, truffle and parmesan chips, or the "Beverly Hills Afternoon" with mini avocado toast, kale salad, crab roll, bite-size Belgian waffles with olive oil and balsamic caviar, assorted macarons, crème brûlée and milk chocolate pot de crème.

From the bar, Velverie offers house-crafted cocktails, local and imported beers, wine and champagne.

"I’m so excited to share this dream of mine in one of the most notable neighborhoods in LA and create a more authentic, luxurious experience for all,” owner Strumpf said.
