Odor Triggers Nordstrom Evacuation At Westfield Century City
A hazmat team was called into investigate, but officials didn't immediately determine the cause of the smell.

CENTURY CITY, CA — A worrisome odor prompted the evacuation of the Westfield Century City Nordstrom Tuesday evening, but the cause of the smell wasn't immediately determined. Authorities did not detect hazardous gasses in the atmosphere.
The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the department store shortly before 6:30 p.m. to find the store had already been evacuated, according to LAFD spokesperson Margaret Stewart.
"Firefighters are investigating and currently have no atypical readings on the five-gas meter," she said.

A portable gas detection device that reads the atmospheric presence of carbon monoxide, oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen cyanide and methane did detect such chemicals, she said.
There were no reports of injuries, but a hazardous materials squad was called in for further investigation, Stewart added.
