Retired Beverly Hills Police Officer Dies After 49 Years With Dept

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Loved ones and colleagues remembered Albert Lightfoot, a retired Beverly Hills police officer who died Sunday.

Lightfoot's family has yet to announce memorial services, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Lightfoot joined the Beverly Hills Police Department in 1973 as a jailer, followed by work as a reserve officer, identification technician and police officer in 1980, according to BHPD. Lightfoot retired in 2011 but continued to volunteer and work part-time for the department until 2022.

"He was the ultimate gentleman, professional, dedicated, never ever saying a bad word about anyone. ... He will be missed. R.I.P. our friend," the Beverly Hills Retired Police Officers Association wrote in a Facebook post.

The department in 2014 created an award in his honor to "recognize his tireless work ethic and dedication to the department." This year, Reserve Officer Ron Derderian won the Albert H. Lightfoot Award, according to the Beverly Hills Courier.

Community members took to social media to share stories and offer Lightfoot's family condolences.

"A good hearted man and a great police officer has passed. Al, Rest In Peace," one person wrote on Facebook.

"I am grateful to have worked with Al for many years and I will miss his smirky chuckle! It is more than fitting that a meritorious service award was named in his honor. Love and condolences to his and the BHPD family," another person wrote on Instagram.
