New Southbound Skirball On-Ramp Opens Sunday Morning

The southbound Skirball on- and off-ramps are being relocated approximately 2,000 feet south of the Skirball Bridge for the purpose of improving traffic flow and reducing travel delays in the local area. In addition, Sepulveda Boulevard will be widened and gain additional traffic improvements for additional street capacity and to accommodate the new ramps.

The new southbound Skirball on-ramp opening is anticipated for Sunday morning, Feb. 3.

The the on-ramp is being relocated 2,000 feet south of the Skirball bridge. The new on-ramp is anticipated to open Sunday morning, the existing southbound Skirball on-ramp will permanently close Friday night, Feb. 1. Also, the scheduled full southbound freeway closure will occur tonight from 1 am to 6 am between the 101 freeway and the Getty ramps.  Freeway lanes will begin to close at 11 pm.

  • The new southbound Skirball off-ramp will continue to be under construction and is anticipated to be open in late summer of 2013. The existing southbound Skirball off-ramp will remain in operation until the new off-ramp is complete.
  • Sepulveda Bl will undergo temporary traffic reconfiguration when the new SB on-ramp is opened, as there will be additional turning lanes onto the new SB Skirball on-ramp. There will be one turning lane on Sepulveda in each direction onto the new SB Skirball on-ramp.
  • A new traffic signal will be placed at the location of Sepulveda Bl and the new SB Skirball ramps.
  • Construction involving the permanent widening of Sepulveda is anticipated to begin in early February of 2013 and to last approximately 10 months. The first three months of work will require nightly closures of Sepulveda Bl from the Skirball Bridge to Mountaingate from 10pm to 6am.
  • The roadway of Sepulveda will be reduced during construction. Please watch for bicyclists and share the road. The final roadway improvements will have additional space for bicyclists.
