Wet Weather in Store for St. Patrick's Day, LA Marathon

A dry winter is drawing to an end, but things should be greening up for Saint Patrick's Day and the arrival of spring, if the Southland gets the soaking some forecasters are predicting for this weekend.

A late winter storm will sweep across the Southland Saturday, bringing rain, gusty winds and below-average temperatures to one of Brentwood's busiest weekends.

Partly cloudy sunny skies and daytime highs in the mid-60s are expected through Friday, when it should start clouding up. Then, rain is expected early Saturday, continuing on-and-off through Sunday afternoon.

The storm is expected to dump up to 1.5 inches rain, forcing the .

The expo was scheduled to coincide with the , which will lure roughly 50,000 visitors to the area.

"Saturday will be quite the weather day," National Weather Service meteorologists said.

There will be about a six-hour period of moderate rain ahead of the cold front mid-morning Saturday. When the storm actually arrives, forecasters said to expect a "fairly brief" period of heavy rain.

Behind the front, showers will likely linger Saturday night into Sunday, when more than at the .

Daytime highs "will struggle" to reach the mid-50s and will generally be 15 to 20 degrees below normal, they said.

“Temperatures will be below normal through Monday, with Sunday being the coldest,” forecasters said.

As it stands so far this year, Los Angeles has received only about one-third of its seasonal rainfall total.
