Mom Arrested At LI School After Hitting Teen With Bottle: Police

A mother was arrested at a Long Island school for hitting a teen girl with a metal water bottle, according to Suffolk County police.

BRENTWOOD, NY — A mother was arrested at a Long Island school on Tuesday for hitting a teen girl who was arguing with her daughter, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said a 14-year-old female was exiting Brentwood High School when she and a 15-year-old female began exchanging words around 11 a.m.

The mother of the 15-year-old, Toni Monroe, struck the 14-year-old multiple times with a metal water bottle until a security guard broke up the altercation and Monroe was arrested in the parking lot a short time later, police said.

The student, whose name is being withheld, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Monroe, 35, was charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

She was held at the Fourth Precinct and is slated to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday, police said.
