Burglar Flees After Resident Interrupts Him

A burglar attempting to enter a home in Burlingame on Thursday was scared away when he encountered the resident inside, police said today. 

The resident in the home in the 3000 block of Alcazar first heard a knock on her door around noon, Capt. Mike Matteucci said.

She didn't answer the door, however, because she didn't recognize the woman on her porch. 

Just moments later, a man forced open her rear sliding glass door and entered the home, Matteucci said. 

When the burglar saw the resident standing there, however, he ran away.

The man and the woman are thought to have been working together, Matteucci said. Police conducted a search of the area using a helicopter and police dogs but could not locate the suspects. 

Nothing was taken, and the resident was not harmed.

The female suspect was described as an African American with shoulder-length braided hair, wearing a hat with the word "Irish" on it. The man was in his 20s, wearing a blue and white striped shirt and jeans. 

Matteucci said the attempted burglary is similar in method to several other recent attempts in the area. Residents should be on the alert for suspicious activity in their neighborhood and call 911 immediately is a suspicious person knocks on their door, he said.
