Burlingame Names New Police Chief

Burlingame will have a new police chief effective next week.

BURLINGAME, CA — Burlingame will have a new police chief effective next week in Mike Matteucci, who has been with the Police Department since 1991, the city announced Monday.

Matteucci, currently a captain with the department, will become chief on Dec. 29 and is replacing retiring Chief Eric Wollman.

City Manager Lisa Goldman appointed Matteucci to the post and described him in a prepared statement as "a strong leader in the department with a deep understanding of policing and the needs of the Burlingame community."

Matteucci attended high school in South San Francisco, and has a bachelor's degree in economics from San Jose State University and a master's degree in emergency services administration from CSU Long Beach.

He also attended the FBI National Academy in Virginia.After starting as a Burlingame police officer in 1991, he was promoted to sergeant in 2000 and then captain in 2004, according to the city.

Matteucci will be sworn in as chief during the City Council's upcoming meeting on Jan. 7.
