The Burlingame city council meets tonight at 7 p.m. in the council chambers. One issue members will discuss is a potential business license ballot measure. This measure would be placed on the November 2011 ballot and modify the city business tax to address issues concerning "the perceived inequities between large and small businesses," according to a staff report.
Bringing voters the option to reevaluate the business tax is a 2010-2011 city council goal. When discussing the tax, council members will also consider the infrastructure and streetscape improvements planned for along Burlingame Avenue. Assessment districts are under consideration to cover the cost of these improvements, an additional cost which might deter business owners from a change in licensing fees.
One option being weighed is a discounted tax for those businesses participating in the assessment district, but according to a staff report, city staff is encouraging council members to discontinue the tax discussion until the streetscape project is complete.

Additionally, the council will discuss a proposed ban on leaf blowers, with a penalty of a $1,000 for violators.
