Ed Wood Appointed As Burlingame Police Chief

After serving as interim police chief since 2009, Capt. Edward Wood was appointed police chief.

Capt. Edward Wood has been appointed as the new Burlingame Police Chief. Wood, who has been serving as interim police chief since December 2009, first joined the Burlingame Police Department in 2007.

"The city of Burlingame has been very fortunate in having someone of Ed's caliber and dedication serving as our Interim Police Chief for the past 17 months," said City Manager Jim Nantell in a statement.

Wood has been acting as interim chief while Burlingame with San Mateo. However, at their , the City Council decided to move forward with only the development of a plan to merge records and dispatch operations between Burlingame and San Mateo, instead of the entire departments.

"Ed's willingness to work in the interim role to allow us to consider the possibility of a merger that might have resulted in a lack of promotional opportunity for him is indicative of the kid of person Ed is," Nantell said in a statement. "You can count on Ed to put the interests of the City and the Department before his own personal interests."

Prior to joining the Burlingame police, Wood served as an officer, sergeant and commander in the Belmont Police Department from 1986 to 2007.

Wood lives with his wife in San Carlos and has two children. There will be a badge pinning ceremony at the June 6 City Council meeting.
