PHOTOS: Garden Club Cleans Up Broadway
Have you taken a stroll along Broadway this week? You have the Burlingame Garden Club to thank for it looking spic and span!
While the Burlingame Garden Club for its community garden, members found a new way to beautify Burlingame. On Saturday, seven members of the group gathered their trash bags, clippers and watering cans and took to Broadway for a their first workday.
They cleaned the sidewalks and gutters, watered the plants and overall improved the condition of Broadway. Club members plan to continue meeting the first Saturday of the month from 8:00 a.m. to around 9 or 9:30 a.m., beginning with downtown areas and moving towards parks.
In January 2011, a survey found the majority of Burlingame residents in support of a community garden, and in February 2011, the the go ahead to start seeking out a location for the garden. Since then, the club has been working with the City to finalize an agreement and construction plans.
