Roosevelt Wins State Honor

Roosevelt Elementary School was chosen as a 2012 California Distinguished School.

Burlingame's has been named a 2012 California Distinguished School, the Burlingame Elementary School District announced Friday.

Roosevelt is one of 387 public elementary schools receiving this honor. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced the list Thursday. Schools were choosen based on innovative education programs working towards closing the achievement gap.

“The schools we are recognizing today demonstrate the incredible commitment of California’s teachers, administrators, and school employees to provide a world-class education to every student, in spite of the financial hardships facing our state and our schools,” Torlakson said in a statement. “Their dedication is inspiring, and I applaud and admire their passion and persistence.”
