Student Poet of the Day: Priya Koliwad

In honor of National Poetry Month, Burlingame Patch will be highlighting a student poet Monday through Friday for the remainder of the month.

These talented student poets are enrolled in a writing workshop at in Burlingame. The workshop is being taught by Writing Program Coordinator Janette Nikolakopoulos.

Student: Priya Koliwad

Bio: Priya is a fun-loving 12 year-old who plays soccer and adores the arts. Dance and singing is also a big part of her life. She has many friends and isn’t afraid to be herself.

Poem:

"Wonderful Love Potion”

The soft speckled sand weaves between your toes.

Brilliant waves the color of deep blue.

Here, we come together. There are no foes.

Sand dunes show where fierce winds blew.

Seaweed piles up along the long shore.

The water shines in the sun.

Waves crash down, what are they here for?

Crabs click their claws as they run.

Tall weeds dance in the wind as soft as lotion.

The salty wind brushes your face.

This place is so beautiful. The ocean.

The sweet foam is the ocean’s lace.

Colorful fish fill the clear blue ocean.

Here you are overtaken by a wonderful love potion.
