CALABASAS, CA — After a slightly wet start to May, forecasters are predicting things will dry out this week with gradually climbing temperatures. Calabasas is expected to see temps in the high 60s and low 70s at the beginning of the week, while Saturday will warm up to the mid-80s.

It's great spring weather for enjoying a slate of outdoor and indoor events planned for Calabasas this week. Here are five things you should know about:

1. The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station is having an open house on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's a great chance to meet the deputies who work in Calabasas every day — and check out some of the equipment that aids their policing. One of the sheriff's helicopters and some K-9s will be there, too. The station is located at 27050 Agoura Road.

2. It's city budget season! While Calabasas' fiscal 2024 budget might not sound very exciting, it's an important blueprint that helps set the city's priorities for the next year — what do you think Calabasas should focus on? The City Council wants to hear from you during its meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. You can go in person, watch on TV or stream it live on Zoom. Check out the city's website for more information.

3. Here's something that might be an easier sell: The Calabasas Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 24th Annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction on Friday, May 12, at 5:30 p.m. in the Civic Center Plaza. Get ready to sample some wine and food, check out a hair fashion show and listen to music provided by talented young Calabasas High School students. For tickets and more information, visit the chamber's website.

4. Wine might be an elixir of life, but another liquid — water — is more indispensable, something Calabasas residents know all too well. The Las Virgenes Municipal Water District is looking for feedback from residents on everything from customer service to the accuracy of your bills. You can complete the survey here.

5. The flowers are in bloom, hillsides are covered in green and the sun is shining. You must have plenty of great photos of the beautiful places and people of Calabasas! Be sure to include your name, the city, location of the photo and date. Note: Only submit photos that you have taken yourself or own the copyright to. And now some things you might have missed from last week:

  • A Calabasas home listed for $199,000. Yep, you read that right. There's a mobile home for sale in the Mulholland Highway community of Calabasas Village for a fraction of what you'd pay anywhere else in town. There is, of course, a caveat: the land lease payment. Check out more details here.
  • The commute from Calabasas to Malibu could be getting better soon. Malibu is exploring ways to improve traffic and safety on Malibu Canyon Road and ease the peak-hour gridlock that can occur around PCH and the Civic Center.
  • A rundown on the writers strike: The Writers Guild of America is striking for the first time in 15 years around issues like AI scriptwriters and residuals. Check out a full explanation and photos from one of last week's protests outside Netflix here.

Have a great week, Calabasas!
