7 Stranded Hikers Rescued From Malibu Creek State Park

Seven young hikers were rescued from Malibu Creek State Park on Monday afternoon in a three-hour operation.

CALABASAS, CA — Authorities rescued seven hikers from Malibu Creek State Park in Calabasas on Monday afternoon.

All seven hikers were uninjured following the three-hour rescue by the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Malibu Search and Rescue, authorities said.

A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter hoisted five of the hikers from a gorge, while two hikers were rescued by foot off a cliffside, according to Malibu Search and Rescue.

The seven hikers, between the ages of 18 and 20, became stranded on a cliffside and in a gorge Monday around 4 p.m. The hikers had started hiking around 11 a.m.

Authorities rescued four hikers from Malibu Creek State Park on Jan. 5 after storms caused treacherous conditions in the park. Just a week before, 50 people were rescued from a flooded Leo Carillo State Park in Malibu.
