CHS Welcomes New Assistant Principal of Athletics
Brian Mercer comes to the Coyote family from San Lorenzo Valley High School in Central California.
Brian Mercer was welcomed as the new assistant principal of athletics for Calabasas High School on Tuesday during the board of education meeting.
Before joining the Coyote family, Mercer was a faculty member at San Lorenzo Valley High School in Central California.
There, Mercer taught science and physical education for five years and coached football and basketball.

In 2003, he was named athletic director and found himself supervising coaches he had once had as a student, including his own father.
Two years later, he was promoted to dean of students and in fall 2007, Mercer was named assistant principal in charge of master schedule, curriculum, guidance testing and facilities.

As assistant principal of athletics, his responsibilities encompass academics as well as sports, Mercer said.
"Part of the charge for me is to increase the student participation in athletics as well as some winning traditions over there so that's part of the job," he said. "But also the instruction part is what I'm really interested in, leading the learning and increasing the academics at a really good high school."
